Professional Biography, Gary Bain

The Wound Guy is Gary Bain RN,

MClinEd BN DipApSc MACN Nurse Educator & Consultant

 

Gary is a Nurse Educator & Wound Care Consultant.

 

Gary lead the launch and implementation of the Wound Management Service at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and directed the nurse-led outpatient Wound Clinic for 25 years. Currently in private practice as Principal of The Wound Guy, he provides education to medical, nursing, allied-health and product-industry personnel. He also provides clinical support to patients (via their clinicians) in the aged care, primary care and community sectors. These activities are conducted concurrently with his present role as educator and nurse consultant in wound management at the Mt Wilga Private Hospital (Rehabilitation Centre), lecturer at Macquarie University’s Australian Lymphoedema Education Research and Treatment (ALERT) and lecturer at the Australian College of Nursing.

 

Gary is a Patron of the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation, whilst The Wound Guy enterprise is an Associate Partner of the Foundation.

 

Gary has memberships with Wounds Australia, the Australasian Lymphology Association and the Australian College of Nursing. He maintains strong relationships with and regularly supports all corporate members of the woundcare product industry. He liaises with and presents for professional organizations such as the Lindsay Leg Club Foundation, the Australian College of Nursing as well as providers within the Aged Care Sector.

Gary undertook his undergraduate training at Avondale College, obtaining a Diploma of Applied Science (Nursing). He obtained a Bachelor of Nursing through the University of Technology Sydney, combining this with a Burns and Plastics Nursing Certificate from the Royal North Shore & Concord Hospitals, completing his tertiary studies at the School of Medicine, University of NSW with a Masters Degree in Clinical Education. He has fulfilled the roles of Nursing Unit Manager, Nurse Educator and Clinical Nurse Consultant working in countries including Australia, Fiji and New Zealand.

 

 

 

 

Cate Bain is a Nurse Team Leader within a large NSW Central Coast General Practice. Amongst her many roles she has a busy wound management portfolio within the General Practice setting. Concurrent with these duties, Cate is also the Media Coordinator for The Wound Guy enterprise and is particularly active on the FaceBook medium where The Wound Guy site operates as a collegiate, informative and support orientated venture.

 

 

 

Lusi Sheehan is the owner, practitioner and educator at The Wound Educator.
The Wound Educator and The Wound Guy share a collaboration to provide resources to those clinicians who engage in wound management.
As a partnership, we look forward to promoting professional development, increased connectedness to other wound education institutions, and of course, interaction with fellow “woundies”.
Individuals who experience challenging wounds need a team to support them in order to enhance their quality of life.
The Wound Educator and The Wound Guy seek to promote and participate in the patient-centric team approach, with a shared vision to
improve wound care literacy and minimise harm caused by wounds.
