Squishing a DVT

Squishing a DVT

There has been considerable debate around the subject of compressing a limb in the presence of an acute DVT (deep vein thrombosis).

Dorothy Thieme and her colleagues recently published research and recommendations on this matter.

A summary recommendation from the group states:

“In acute symptomatic lower limb DVT, compression therapy shall be initiated immediately following diagnosis, since this leads to a faster reduction in pain and swelling”.
